13 ‘A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing’

I’m convinced that the art of rolling a joint will die out one day. To be replaced with homemade buckets and bongs - already popular with the young. The reason this method of smoking cannabis is growing in popularity is that you receive a stronger dose, and the cannabis and tobacco fumes pass through water. This apparently softens the attack on the lungs and throat.

However, observe teenagers in particular as they inhale the fumes from a bong first thing in a morning. Watch them closely for about thirty minutes afterwards. See them change from bright and cheerful to lethargic and subdued in a matter of moments. They’ll try to look as cool as a cucumber, but the paroxysm of coughing and the red watery eyes give the game away. When the involuntary wheezing of the chest and tenderness of the throat settles down, they’ll find the quietest possible spot to get over how weak and weird they feel.

If you ask them how do they feel, they will tell you they are just ‘chillin-out’. As they sit detached and sprawled out they do look relaxed. Nevertheless, he or she will be secretly thinking, ‘Oh shit! I feel terrible.’

What the teenager doesn’t realize is that everyone who has inhaled the fumes from the bong feels exactly the same way, regardless of age and experience. Perhaps the one thing we could rely upon was that cannabis helped us to look cool – but look a little closer and it doesn’t even do that!

Even the ‘rebel’ label attached to cannabis is suspect. Perhaps one day we might wake up to frenzied headlines like:

‘TEENAGE REBEL REFUSES TO SMOKE CANNABIS’

‘TEENAGE BOY DETERMINED TO BE DIFFERENT’

‘FRESH AIR BECOMES THE NEW CRAZE!’

When everyone else is doing the same thing you can hardly be described as a rebel if you do it too. And everyone else it seems, at one stage or another in their lives, takes up cannabis. Even former American presidents, royalty and several British politicians have admitted to trying it out. When youngsters are doing the same activities as politicians and royalty, isn’t it time to cringe and find something new, exciting and original to do?

Have you heard of the fable ‘A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing’? It tells the tale of a cunning yet hungry wolf.

The wolf, having some difficulty targeting a particular flock of sheep, owing to the watchfulness of the shepherd, failed every time it made a move on the flock. Then one day the wolf found the flayed pelt of a sheep and decided to disguise itself as one of them. The deception worked and the wolf was able to fool both the shepherd and the flock. At its leisure the wolf was now able to pick off individual sheep without arousing suspicion. By the time the Shepherd realized what was going on, it was already too late!

The message of the fable is appearances can be deceptive. Well let’s say cannabis is the wolf and you are the sheep.
